September 2016 Primary

Thursday, September 8

Every town will be holding a State Primary Election in September.  To vote in this election, you must be registered by Friday, August 19.  If you choose to vote with an Absentee Ballot,  we recommend you apply ASAP!

“Voters who are already registered but wish to change their party affiliation ahead of the primaries must also do so by Aug. 19, Galvin’s office said.Voters registered to one of the state’s four political parties — Democratic, Republican, Green-Rainbow or United Independent — may only vote in that party’s primary. Unenrolled voters may vote in any one party primary. Galvin urged voters unsure of their registration status to check with their city or own clerk or registrar of voters.we recommend you send in your request ASAP.

The September 8 primaries will narrow the fields in contests for Congress, Governor’s Council, state Senate, state House of Representatives, sheriff, county commissioner in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Norfolk and Plymouth counties, register of deeds in Dukes and Suffolk counties, and district attorney in Bristol County, according to Secretary of State, William Galvin.” (from the State House News Service by Colin A. Young)

Candidates running for re-election, and new candidates will be listed on the ballot.  Voters also may write in their own candidates, along with the write-in’s address.

Even if your favorite incumbant elected official is unopposed, you should still vote in the State Primary.  An effective write-in campaign, along with a complacent unopposed candidate can lead to unexpected results!

We highly recommend that you vote in September!
